CHHWEEK SPOTLIGHT: LECRAE
On this week’s CHH WEEK, we focus on one of the legend and trail blazer Christian rapper Lecrae and we give you a short snipet story about him to inspire you.
Growing up influenced by family who were surrounded by Hip-hop music, videos and culture. He grew up influenced by the rap culture.
Lecrae says “Rap was my only social outlet. I was very introverted growing up and I had small circle of friends. Any opportunity I got to rap or articulate things through rhyme or hip hop was great for me”
At a conference which he attend invited by friends he answered the call committing his life to Christ at the age of 19
He says “.. on that trip to Atlanta, they started playing The Cross Movement and to be honest, I thought it was terrible. I thought, “This is ridiculous. Every single song is about Jesus?” On the way back home, I thought it was incredible because my heart had been transformed and they were articulating things that I could understand now…”
Lecrae says
“My mission is not to give an apologetic for why I’m trying to impact people’s lives and use the Gospel to transform. My mission is to impact people’s lives and use the Gospel to transform. I want to be on that mission and not explaining it all the time.”
Lecrae is a Multiple Grammy awards winner, Multiple Dove awards winner, GMA, SoulTrain, Multiple BET and Billboard music awards winner. He is the founder of Reach Records which is home to a range of award winning artists.
