Mr Museveni has so far captured 62 percent of the vote, based on preliminary results from two-thirds of the polling stations, compared to Bobi Wine’s 30 percent, the electoral commission said.
Simon Byabakama, chief of the Election Commission, said the vote was peaceful and called on Bobi Wine, who said some of his polling agents were arrested on Thursday, to make public the evidence of his allegations of fraud.
The opposition candidate thinks that the closure of the internet is being used to block contact and to compromise the vote.
People have been having problems sending text messages, as well as being unable to get online.
According to Reuters news agency, “Several of our phone numbers, including mine and my wife’s, have been switched off, have disconnected illegally,” said Bobi Wine.
“As soon as the internet is restored, I would be pleased to share the videos of all the fraud and irregularities.
The electoral commission reports that significant violations have been reported by only two polling stations in the country and voting in those places has been cancelled.
Mr. Wanyama, who is President Museveni’s spokesman, also hit back at Bobbi Wine’s voting rigging allegations.
He fell short of Ugandan expectations,”He came short of the expectation of Ugandans,” “He had no message and Ugandans have told him he has to wait a little longer.”
