Show the world there is ability in disability – JONAPWD to members
The Joint National Association of Persons with Disability (JONAPWD) has called on its members to actively participate, compete, interact, and engage with others to showcase their talents, skills, and creativity.
Hon Adamu Sha’aibu, Chairman of JONAPWD in Jigawa State, made this call on Tuesday during the commemoration of International Disability Day.
The theme for this year, “UNITED IN ACTION TO RESCUE AND ACHIEVE THE SDGs FOR, WITH AND BY PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES,” emphasizes the collective effort needed to support inclusivity by eliminating physical, technological, and attitudinal barriers for people with disabilities.
He said the issue of inclusivity in disability is a collective responsibility of various and different stakeholders, starting from the family, community, government and society in general.
“There is a need for all relevant stakeholders to kindly put hands together to remedy the challenges facing the successful journey of a person with a disability to the promised land,” he remarked.
“Let me use this opportunity to call on all our members across the 27 local governments of the state to please stride up to. participate, compete, interact, and engage with other people to effectively and efficiently maximize the use of our talent, skills, and creativity to show to the world that there is ability in disability.”
The chairman commended the state government for implementing programs and activities that address the needs of people with disabilities in Jigawa State.
