Manchester United is now looking to extend the contract of Edinson Cavani, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says.
In October, the Uruguay striker, 33, entered into a one-year contract, with the option of a further year.
He only started one Premier League game, but in eight games he scored three goals and came off the bench to build a goal for Bruno Fernandes at Leicester on Saturday.
He expects a new contract to be agreed, Solskjaer said.
“Edinson has a few years left in him so I wouldn’t say anything else,” said Solksjaer.
Solskjaer said he sees the former Paris St-Germain and Napoli forward as more than just a replacement for impact.
“He is definitely a starter,” the Norwegian said.
“You don’t classify a player of that quality as anything else. I trust him and he will probably start more games than he won’t.”
The launch of Cavani was postponed as he had been so self-isolated since returning from France for a fortnight. He then had to build up match fitness at the end of June after leaving PSG.
